All about me
I was raised on a small farm in Shannon, MS by a large, close-knit family. My parents worked very hard to provide for us. As the oldest child, I was also the oldest grandchild on both sides of the family. You could say I was a little spoiled, not by material things, but by love and affection. My parents and grandparents led by example in loving and serving the Lord and all those around them. They taught us to work hard, enjoy life, and love deeply in word and deed. Some of my favorite memories include summer nights in the swing surrounded by family members shelling peas or breaking beans, big breakfasts where we all had bed head, trips to the stormhouse in the middle of the night, and my little brother playing tricks on Grandma.
After high school, I didn't know what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. I completed one year of business classes at ICC before changing my major to Elementary Education. Unhappy with that, I took a break from college altogether and started a full-time job as a Sales Service Correspondent for a large furniture manufacturer. I knew it wasn't what I was supposed to do long-term and something inside of me was never satisfied, but I gained great experience in business processes and life during that time. After my first son was born, my husband and I began to pray that God would provide an opportunity for me to go back to school. Over the next six months, I became more and more aware of women in technology and the exciting challenges and growth opportunities within the IT field. I earned an Associate degree from Itawamba Community College in Information Systems Technology - Computer Programming and was awarded the Programming Award in 2000.
The furniture company I worked for allowed me to transfer to their IT department where I worked on the Financial Team for 12 years. Mainframe programming in RPG II, Natural, and UFO were our common languages. A few of my favorite, and most challenging projects during that time included redesigning payroll checks/stubs for a new printer software, creating the first payroll direct deposit transmissions for the company, and rewriting the payroll process to improve Human Resources' ability to add/remove payroll deductions easily.
I joined CCS in 2012 and became an Umbraco certified developer. Our clients are awesome, and I love helping them create websites and solutions that are right for them.
My greatest accomplishments call me Mama. They might be grown-ish, but my boys have my whole heart.
I love naps and gardening but do little of either.
I love a good movie, but Pride and Prejudice with Kiera Knightly and Matthew MacFadyen is probably my favorite.
Some of my other favorites are The Notebook, Safe Haven, Beaches (an old one), Radio, and Facing the Giants.
